FAA required 4-pound Bird Ingestion Certification.  Successful completion of this FAA test requires that the engine demonstrate containment of all internal hardware/components, remain on the engine mounts, and not catch fire.  This test demonstrated compliance with FAA Certification requirements.  The chicken for this test was grown from an egg (by Test Engineer Terry Jamison), had to be alive and weigh over 4-pounds.  The chicken was chloroformed prior to the test and shot from a pneumatic cannon (on right) at 250 mph into the inlet of an ATF3 engine operating at maximum (takeoff) power.
